FiBL and its partners have established a network of long-term farming systems comparison field trials (LTE) in order to compare the performance of conventional and organic production systems for a period of 15 – 20 years. Besides, participatory on-farm research on technology development (PTD) is carried out with organic farmers to develop new, locally adapted solutions for specific problems in local organic production systems.

The project experiments are conducted at different sites in Kenya, India and Bolivia, which differ in agro-ecological and environmental conditions. The conducted LTE represent local farming systems and the variability of input levels in a small holder context. LTE trials were established between 2005 and 2008. PTD activities started in 2009.
